With regard to Galicia, we can say that it is the type of diet followed by our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents… that style and way that we Galicians have of feeding ourselves in a varied, healthy way and with which we see increasing significantly. the number of centenarians who live in our Community is significant (they have tripled in the last decade).
If to this, we add, among its main characteristics, the consumption of fresh, seasonal, local and little processed foods, together with a non-sedentary life, where physical activity is a daily and habitual practice, they serve as a breeding ground. to contemplate that its inhabitants have great benefits for their health thanks to it.
The “Atlántica Diet Foundation” highlights the consumption of the following foods in its Atlantic Diet decalogue:
-
-
High consumption of fish and seafood.
-
Consumption in abundance of cereals, potatoes and legumes.
-
High consumption of fruits and vegetables (turnip tops, turnip greens, cabbage, cauliflower, etc.)
-
Consume dairy products (cheese, yogurt, milk) daily Meat in moderation and preferably lean with little saturated fat.
-
Use Olive Oil as the main saturated fat.
-
Foods, all of them, with nutrients of high biological value. Accompanied by simple culinary techniques (steam, cooked, grilled) and traditional, enjoying the food calmly and in time as well as the company of friends and family.
We include with this diet an abundant intake of liquids, preferably water, and physical activity every day.To say that, among other reasons, perhaps due to lack of interest and funding, there are very few published studies and therefore little scientific evidence, however the data we have is sufficiently clear and conclusive in relation to recognizing our Atlantic Diet as a Healthy Eating pattern.
Among its main benefits we are going to highlight:-
-
Obesity Prevention, we reduce the incidence of overweight and obesity in both children and adults.
-
Protective effect of Cardiovascular Diseases Reduce and prevent chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia or metabolic syndrome.
-
High longevity, increasing expectancy and quality of life.
-
Sustainable diet, due to its low environmental impact and low carbon footprint.
-
To encourage, for all this, to deepen and delve into our Atlantic Diet, so that if we manage to carry out a diet based on its products together with healthy habits, we will prevent or avoid certain pathologies, we will live longer and better.
